The FITEC Story
The world will always need wood. It is used in so many areas of our daily life such that it is an essential resource. It is a contemporary resource because of the threat of climate change and the use of wood combats climate change.
There is an enormous asset of wood waiting to be cut and used. Planted progressively over the last century exotic plantations represent a huge asset for New Zealand. The processing of this asset and turning it into useful products for mankind is important work.
But the challenge of recovery and processing of this asset is enormous. It is often in remote areas and difficult terrain. While heavy machinery in the forest and the mill is vital, the critical factor is the human factor.
Wood recovery and processing requires people who can not only do the work, operate the machines and handle the conditions, but it requires people who are able to think and solve the inevitable problems that arise every day often in remote and difficult locations. It requires people who are resourceful, positive and determined.
Most of all this industry requires people who are enterprising, people who can see an opportunity, create and maintain a business, introduce a new way of doing things, all of which make for a more successful industry.
People from the forest and wood processing industry are highly valued – Why? Because they have skills and these skills have been tested in the most demanding conditions. They are positive, optimistic, “can do” in their attitudes and solve problems that other people walk away from.
The challenge of the natural environment and a natural product produces people of character and capability and these people are the story that FITEC is looking to tell.
