Biosecurity

All it can take is opening the door of an international aircraft. Yet despite this apparent vulnerability, New Zealand's natural and planted forests are still largely free of the most serious pests and diseases.

And just as New Zealand is careful to prevent unwanted pests and diseases from entering the country, so too are the countries that accept our exports.

The number of forest insects or fungi that have arrived in our country from overseas is extremely low considering the large increase in imports over the past 40 years.

Our export record is even stronger. Many of our trading partners often don't inspect, or give priority clearance to incoming New Zealand produce because of our good name in biosecurity.
