Solid Wood Manufacturing (V1) Core Skills

Level: 3

Credits: 64-94

Prerequisite: Core of the wood manufacturing foundation skills qualification or equivalent skills and knowledge.

Structure: This qualification contains a common core for all solid wood processing, wood product manufacturing, LVL, plywood and veneer operations with a specific focus on operation of equipment.

Qualification Description: This qualification is designed for people who are working in the industry to develop their knowledge and operational competence. The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that all operators in the wood manufacturing industries can perform duties responsibly, safely and efficiently; and contribute to continuing productivity improvements. The qualification has a common core that addresses environmental and health and safety issues; introductory continuous improvement techniques; with contextualised teamwork and communication development; and a strand that is aligned with operational skills in individual processing options. Further strands may be added to the qualification as the operator broadens their skill sets. This is seen as the qualification for competent operators in the industry.

Core size: A minimum of 44 credits is required.

Strand: Veneer preparation

Prerequisite: Wood handling and distribution strand or wood panels stand of the wood manufacturing foundation skills qualification or equivalent skills and knowledge.

Strand description: This strand covers the knowledge and skills required of competent operators in veneer preparation, and recovery optimisation for the manufacture of LVL or Plywood.

Strand size: A minimum of 35 credits is required
