AREAS WE WORK IN
FITEC is the industry training organisation (ITO) for the
forest industries and is owned by industry to work for industry on all aspects
of education and training. FITEC has gazetted coverage over
the following sectors.
- Forestry establishment, silviculture and harvesting
- Solid wood processing
- Pulp & paper converting
- Wood panel manufacturing
- Forest health & biosecurity
- Credit & finance

WHAT WE DO
Under the Industry Training Act 1992, the Education (Tertiary Reform) Amendment
Act 2002 and the Industry Training (Amendment) Act 2002, FITEC has certain legal responsibilities, including:
- setting national standards and qualifications and developing learning resources
- developing training programmes for employers and employees
- developing arrangements for training delivery
- maintaining a database of trainees and their learning records
- arranging quality assurance of training providers, industry trainers and assessors
- providing leadership in industry on skills & learning issues
In addition to this, FITEC performs a number of other
roles, at the request of industry. These include:
- supporting and coordinating the Modern Apprenticeship Programme
- promoting the forest industries as a career choice
- championing best practice in health & safety
- promoting the industry through the Insights website
- coordinating regional initiatives to meet specific needs
