National Qualifications (whether Apprenticeships or Traineeship programmes) are made up of unit standards. A certain number of unit standards must be completed to gain each qualification.

Each unit standard:

  • Describes the skills and knowledge needed in a particular part of a job.
  • Earns a certain number of credits or points towards a qualification.

Unit standard credits are useful by themselves, because they show exactly what an employee can do.

Building better people

By investing in the quality of your people, you're helping your company to stay competitive in an increasingly challenging global market.

  • FITEC can help you identify and act on the training and qualifications needed to develop the potential of your people.
  • We can identify where an individual is now, in terms of skills and qualifications, then suggest the qualifications they need to progress to the next stage in their career.
  • The final step is to put them in touch with the appropriate Training Provider.
  • Government subsidies are available to employees who pursue national qualifications, allowing reduced-cost training both on and off the job. FITEC administers these funds in the forest industries.
